User Reviews for Campo Viejo Tempranillo Blend Rioja Crianza
Add your reviewJuicy rioja. Medium to light body red with a predominant tempranillo/grenache blend (muceunda \/ or similar makes up the rest). Ripe cherry and plum with hints of vanilla. Decent everyday red. $15 cdn.
Maybe it wasn't ready to be opened, but the first glass was tough to finish. There was something I couldn't put my finger on but it seemed bitter. Upon 30-45 minutes of resting, glass two went down much better. Smoked meat on the nose. Light-Medium body with tastes of blackberry and vanilla once rested.

Campo Viejo has a long and proud history that dates back to the Roman Empire. Campo Viejo is the flagship of Rioja wines. Ever since two local winemakers Beristain and Ortig ela created the first vintage in 1959, we have been synonymous with expressive wines, unique styles and innovation.

Campo Viejo Crianza 2006 is a thin to medium-bodied wine made from Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo grapes. Not a lot of fruit coming through on the nose, masked by oak/leather and a nice earthiness that comes across as mushroomy. A bit peppery on the initial attack with underlying strawberry flavor coming through.
Winemaker's Notes:
Pale yellow with greenish glints, very clear and bright. The wine must be left in the glass for a few moments in order let it open and show its complexity. Initially the fruity character highlights, specially this vintage, enhancing the green apple and the pear, giving way to that floral side, with white blossom such as magnolia and acacia, with subtle notes of honey, some spice, a slight toasting.
