Campion Pinot Noir Carneros 2007

Member Review by johanna83:

Another pinot noir past its prime. Completely my fault, I didn't realize when I bought four bottles in a sale that PN loses its fruit forwardness after just a couple of years. A great lesson learned! The nose is deceiving, because it's very pleasant. Taste is tinny, lacks character. Again, probably no fault of the wine, which may have been very good if drunk during its prime.

Edna Valley Pinot Noir with 7-8% Pinot Gris. It was a rich, ruby red with flowery aromatics and a juicy cherry and strawberry set of flavors that finished with just a touch of mushroom. If you like your pinots fruity, this would represent good QPR.

Very good pn. Cherry red in color, with earthy aromas. On the palate, more cherries combined with earth, herbs, and a slightly mushroomy flavor. Good terroir, more so than the fruit. Could be in better balance on the front end, with more intensity. Best on the back. Slight silkiness in texture. Very good/excellent QPR for the price I paid. Addition from day 2: this continues to improve on the second day, so I'm revising my drinking window. I think it's still at the beginning of its life an will continue to integrate and become more interesting.

[$24.95] Full-bodied pinot. Fruit, red cherry, crushed rose pedals, tannic; very nice effort. This was the QPR of the night. At $20 this was a very nice surprise.
