Cameron Hughes Merlot Carneros Lot 122 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Notes: Deep eggplant purple with a nose that exhibits assertive aromas of dark cherries, chocolate underpinned with darker notes of coffee, tobacco and cedar. The flavors of this wine echo the ripe fruit of the nose with added nuances of spice box, smoke and toasty oak melting into a finish of bittersweet chocolate. These rich tones are wrapped together with a velvety mouth feel and chewy tannins, displaying the prestige of these southern Napa Merlots. Enjoy now or cellar for up to 6 years. Cameron Confidential: The same folks who made Lot 125 Carneros Pinot Noir and Lot 127 Carneros Chard made us this wine back in 2006. This wine shows great company. Some Merlots tend to be kind of fatty and lipid but this wine spent 18 months in barrel and was allowed time to really integrate with those wonderfully chewy tannins. Frankly, Merlot just grows really well down there. Finally, we added a touch of syrah to flesh-out this wine giving it some of those nice subtleties of spice and smoke with an extensive, complex finish. Original retail price on this wine was around 25 bones, so when we found that we could get it to you guys for just 12… we were ecstatic. I’m continually impressed with these Carneros Merlots and how they are maintaining that beautiful balance and structure for which they’re known. Wine Enthusiast gave this wine a ‘Best Value’ and it shows. And folks, true to our philosophy, this is just a really great wine for 12 bucks.
