What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Taste: Dead ringer for Lot 18. Powerful aromas of anise, violets, smoky oak and graphite/tarry earth/leather. Fleshy midpalate of cherries, loganberry, and raspberry emerges from dusty tannins after a good hour of air so decanting at this stage is highly recommended. Balanced finish has good length with extremely well-integrated read more...

Editorial Reviews

What a lovely nose, really speaking of cool climate California Cabernet with lovely nuanced notes of mint, grapevine, soil and toast accentuating the blueberry tinged cassis fruit. The nutty oak tones gain and fade and are replaced with gentle mineral and bay leaf tones but all in fine balance to the cool crushed cassis fruit. In the mouth this starts off precise and tight, if perhaps a bit youthfully disjointed but with time to breath this gathers itself admirably and offers text-book Oak Knoll character with bright red and black currant fruit that has just the slightest jammy edge, mouth cleansing read more...

Never had anything like that before” wine (unless of course you have had Lot 18). Tasted at the 2008 Wine 2.0 event at Crushpad: Very powerful inky dark wine. Strong nose of eucalytpus. Leather and cedar in the mouth. Not my style (SA Cabs generally arent). There's a lot here, but it needs a year of age.

Too much alcohol and tannin without any level of structure. It was hot right from start and just lingered as I searched for something positive from the finish. Nothing here but a nice lesson learned.
Possibly the most disappointing CH to date.

At first the fruit and cassis were really present on the nose, but they went into hiding for a while until the wine had sat in the glass for about 10 minutes. The wine was pretty tight and tannic, but it seems like this has some really good aging potential.

Yes, love that too. Can't go wrong with the Cameron Hughes model. Love their blends. Great prices with high quality. That's what I'm looking for.

Too tanic for my tastes. Didn't feel it had the complexity I was looking for either.
