What to Expect
Australia has certainly made Syrah its own, even bestowing it with a new name: Shiraz. In the warm, dry climate of Australia this noble grape, responsible for some of the grandest wines of France, produces an intense, unique expression that is distinctly Australian. The ripe grapes take on classic notes of black pepper and leather that add depth and complexity to the black cherry and plum fruits on the palate. Australian Shiraz has typically been aged in American Oak barrels which impart the wine with a distinct note of vanilla that can add to the impression of ripeness many of these wines have, but the time in barrel also allows the wines a chance to settle and reveal their rich, voluptuously styled mouthfeel.
Winemakers Notes
Taste: The color belies the youth of this wine with an attractive ripe cherry red rim and deep purple core. Aromas are more refined than you would expect from a vineyard of this age with intense forest fruit characters literally leaping out of the glass. With a bit of teasing you will see the white pepper and spice aromas but be prepared for the mulberry and red currant characters on the palate. A cleansing character of mint leaves and licorice flavours linger and testify that this wine is one that can be put down for quite a few years more if so desired. Deep, sensuous wine and an unbelievable deal.

Editorial Reviews
Subtle and restrained on the nose this took several hours to fully reveal itself with an integrated note of toasty oak offering good contrast to the soft plummy fruit with very light background notes of black mineral rich earth, licorice, herb and a hint of chipotle. The good core of fruit is supported by soft tannins and good acidity and the red plum fruit is gently accented with light notes of clove and mace sauteed in butter. Elegant with a hint of austerity this is restrained and polished in a classic Meritage/ Bordelaise style. Approachable today this is ideal for near term consumption. 87pts

Hughes Wine
Notes: Deep red purple color; almost black. Bright cherry nose with hints of raspberries and vanilla oak. Medium complexity will continue to unfold as this wine gets more bottle bouquet with time. Rich, deep and full-bodied on the palate with a solid core of cherry and raspberry fruit. The cabernet brings the fruit and structure, the merlot, the mid-palate depth and jamminess, the cab franc brings the color and the high-toned raspberry fruit. The wine is seamless, silky and round with well integrated tannins that finish long and clean. Drinkable near-term as well but will need some decanter read more...

Notes: Incredible blueberry essence on the nose of this Syrah. The pallet continues to unfold offering hints of dark chocolate and dusty earth. It evolves into the mid-palate with plums, black fruits and smoky, leathery tannins that move into a velvety smooth finish. This is an elegant and full-bodied Syrah. Tight right now so it will need a good hour or two in a decanter and has years of ageing potential if you can wait that long -- 100% Syrah. Cameron Confidential: Nothing really juicy here in terms of provenance. This is a grower wine going into $20 plus bottlings. The '05 growing season was read more...
