Cameron Hughes Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County Lot 147 2007
Notes: Deep red hue. Bright nose of bing cherry and dusty cocoa translates word-for-word onto the palate. Engaging mouthfeel is rich and round, with perfect balance of fruit and well-integrated oak. Very lush with a medium length finish that will pair well with food. Just a baby, too, so let this one breathe a bit after opening. Cameron Confidential: This wine comprises 82% Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley and 10% Chalk Hill Cabernet, with a little Malbec and Carignane to round out the blend. The wines are sourced from multiple boutique wineries located in the Alexander Valley.
Editorial Reviews for Cameron Hughes Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County Lot 147
Big and bold with sweet pipe tobacco, cut grass, brushfire, brambly blackberry and soil tones. Opulent, nicely integrated acids and lots of soft tannins, there’s an edge of mint right up front, the mid-palate is a touch loose with nice, herb tinged, eucalyptus tinged, black cherry fruits. A sweet, fruity tone, red fruited, on the shortish finish, which has a touch of wood poking up through the fruit. 89pts
A touch herbal, and laced with hints of sweet vanilla and dusty tones that help frame the soft fruit. On the palate this offers an initial pop of big cherry fruit in a smooth package that combines soft tannins and integrated acidity. It’s a little tight at the moment but promises to improve with another 2 years or so in the bottle. Give it plenty of air if you want to enjoy this now. 89pts
Smells like cigarettes. Tastes too bitter. Bad aftertaste that lingers.
This '07 cab from Sonoma is another winner from Cam. Nice aroma of tobacco, smoke, a little pepper. On the palate, fruit showing and herbal essence; medium finish. Will improve with a little age.
Intense aroma of cigarette smoke, rather strong tannins. Didn't particularly like this one, but now that I think of it (having read the above comments) it might be better with age and some air. Interesting anyway.
Wonderful raspberry smell, with a nice smoky and peppery taste, almost spicy. i approve.
I got this as part of the 4-wine special in December. I love it and will buy more. Very smooth. I did not care for the lot 160 Zin - too sweet.
