Cambria Katherines Special Select Chardonnay 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Named after owner Barbara Banke’s eldest daughter, Katherine’s is a blend of different blocks comprised of both old clone Chardonnay and cutting edge plant material. Each of the 34 blocks of Chardonnay, planted in sand and granite soils, are farmed on an individual basis and the expression from each block is wholly unique. The resultant wine is the sum of this diversity, a Chardonnay with a spectrum of fruit avors ranging from mango to meyer lemon and a rich texture framed by refreshing natural acidity

Cambria Winery:
Santa Barbara County is a quiet sanctuary of golden hills and well-groomed vineyards located three hours north of the glitter and bustle of Los Angeles. This is the place we call home. For more than 20 years, we have produced estate grown Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah from our benchland vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley AVA of Santa Barbara County. Welcome to Cambria.
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Papaya and fennel seed greet the nose followed by notes of mint, pollen and pears. This has an unusual set of aromas, but they are intriguing. Nicely full in the mouth, yet this has a glassy tautness on the palate. The fruit is subtle, showing some gentle wood influences of spice and vanilla, but it remains rather bright and clear. This finishes with a nice, refreshing wash of apple skins and lime zest, along with some toasty spice notes. Everything is very well balanced, rich but not weighty. 89pts

Rich pear fruits and flowers in the aroma, with pineapple. The mouth is quite buttery, with a sparkling acidity on the finish.

Bright with citrus, apple, peach, and vanilla aromas. Rich, mouthfilling flavors of grapefruit, citrus blossom, white peach and sweet oak lead to a crisp finish with a lasting impression of spicy oak.
