What to Expect

Tannat is a grape most frequently associated with the Madiran region of France, though it has become increasingly successful in South America, particularly Uruguay. It produces a rich, rustic wine with considerable tannins and a smoky, spicy character that adds complexity to its deep tones of black raspberry fruit.

Winemakers Notes

When Tannat is made properly, it is bold yet refined, thought provoking and rousing - an experience that extends beyond the last glass. It has a rich fragrance of violets and brush, like Santa Ana winds over a field of sage. The tannins immediately fill your mouth (and for the uninitiated this might cause a moment of concern) but you'll see they are knitted and structured and form the matrix that begins to fill with a thick, surging wave of viscous blackberry and licorice fruit. With another sip (and we think that you will be tempted to take one), you'll continue exploring the wine made from read more...

Reviews

This wine has gorgeous dark color and a huge nose wafting aromas of licorice and root beer. From the looks and smells of things, this is going to be a big bold shot of life, right? The body is smooth but lacking in any distinguishable flavor characteristics, though the finish has a quick berry pop before dropping off into non-existence. A strong starter, but might do well to age and try with a nice dinner.

This is a grape varietal that I have never had before. Very surprising. I found it to be a little sweet smelling with a hint of moist earth. It is a very easy drinking wine, which you could pair with anything from pizza, pasta, or even a grilled cheese sandwich. If you've never had it, now is the time to try it.
