Caliterra Shiraz Rosé Reserva 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Caliterra was established in 1996 as a joint venture between the families of Robert Mondavi and Viña Errazuriz. In January 2004 Viña Errazuriz became the sole owners of Caliterra, at the heart of which is the impressive 1000ha Caliterra Estate. The name Caliterra is taken from 'Calidad' spanish for quality and 'Tierra' - land. The wine making philosophy of Caliterra is to produce environmentaly friendly quality wines in the heart of the Colchagua Valley. The focus is around the 1000ha Caliterra estate in Colchagua where 242ha are currently under vine. Crucially a large proportion of this estate, and all new plantings, are on prime hillside sites resulting in high quality fruit and complex wines. Caliterra as a truly International brand, the focus has been on developing export markets as the basis for supporting growth. Today, Caliterra is sold in 50 countries on five continents. The grapes were harvested at optimum maturity. Once destemmed and gentlycrushed in stainless-steel tanks, we waited for 24 hours and approximately 5% to 10% of the juice was bled off to obtain the best colour for the wine. The must was centrifuged and fermented at a temperature of 12°-15° C; we also took special care in protecting the must by inert gases during fermentation in order to avoid oxidation. This 'Reserva Shiraz Rosé' shows an attractive and lovely pink colour. In the aromatic expression strawberry notes, ripe raspberries and cherries prevail. On the palate the wine is round, soft and has a pleasant mouthfeel with a long and persistent finish.
