Nicely stemmy and lightly vegetal on the nose with aromas that recall strawberry and carrot tops. There's a lovely hint of spicy wood here that really sets off the lightly smoky raspberry and strawberry fruit. A bit chunky early on, this is soft and broad in the mouth with faint mocha accents to the rather intense blackberry and black plum skin fruit of the mid-palate. There's impressive intensity to the fruit and the wine remains firm and focused in the mouth with nice cut on the back end and right through the lightly mineral, dry fruited finish. Not complex but intense and decisive in the mouth, with lovely freshness to the tannins. 88pts

The nose was highly expressive with a bouquet that showed sweet cherries, pine nettles and dark soil notes. On the palate it was silky smooth yet juicy, with pure dark cherry fruit, hints of herbs, and a crack of pepper. The finish followed suit, as it’s red fruit and earthy profile slowly melted away from the palate. (91 points)

An excellent bargain in Pinot Noir, the 2008 Pinot Noir Central Coast offers a delicious introduction to the Calera style. Fifty percent whole clusters were used, and the wine was aged 11 months in Francois Freres Burgundy barrels, of which 10% were new. Bottled unfiltered, it is a blend of fruit from four separate Central Coast counties, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, San Benito, and Santa Clara. Attractive notes of roasted herbs, sweet and sour cherries, strawberry jam, sassafras, and earth emerge from this medium to full-bodied, supple-textured, seductive red. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.

Caleraandrsquo;s basic Central Coast Pinot is a good, drily crisp wine, showing some real elegance. A little heavy, it shows cherry, red currant, herb, tobacco, teriaki beef and sandalwood flavors. Drink now. More than 12,000 cases were produced.

The 2009 Pinot Noir bursts from the glass with expressive red fruit, flowers, spices and mint. It shows lovely mid-palate juiciness and an elegant, polished finish. At $24 a bottle, it may very well be the single finest value in American Pinot Noir. I was hardly surprised to learn Emirates chose to serve this wine in their business class cabin last year. This is a dazzling wine from start to finish. It is also one of the two 2008 Pinots made from fully destemmed fruit. Wow! Anticipated maturity: 2011andndash;2016.

Central Coast, CaliforniaCalera Pinot Noir Central Coast is our newest red wine gem from California! Calera is a vision, and Calera's wines truly express the sense of place. Rather than follow the recommended path, Josh Jensen became a pioneer in search of the perfect spot on the globe to grow grapes. Even renowned wine critic Robert Parker is convinced, saying, " Calera is one of the most compelling Pinot Noir specialists of not only the New World, but of Planet Earth." Antonio Galloni for Parker rated this wine 92 points with a glowing review: "It may very well be the single finest value in American Pinot Noir. I was hardly surprised to learn Emirates chose to serve this wine in their business class cabin last year. This is a dazzling wine from start to finish." Need we say more?Calera Pinot Noir offers delightful bright aromas of pomegranate, sandalwood, juicy cherry and bramble. Seven different vineyard sources combine to create lively flavors of cranberry, French prune, briar and expressive red plum with a soft underpinning of oak. Deep flavors, firm tannins, wonderful fruit and a nice tartness make for a rich, lingering finish. The wine was aged without racking in mostly French oak barrels, 10% new, for eleven months. The vineyard lots were combined prior to bottling and the wine was bottled unfiltered.Enjoy Calera Pinot Noir Central Coast with roast pork, grilled salmon, ratatouille and aged cheeses.

Good berry nose and spicy nose with spice on palate. This will really need another yr in the basement. It has fruit and tannins it will live. Good long pinot finish with good burgundy chracteristcs.

Spicy, with an herbal streak running through the cherry notes. Turns complex and a bit tannic. Drink now through 2001.
