Calera Chardonnay Mount Harlan 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

Bright honeysuckle, sandalwood, honeydew melon and Asian pear are typical aromas for this classic Chardonnay from high elevation, limestone laden Mt Harlan vineyard inland from the chilly Monterey Bay. Restrained flavors of apricots, Meyer lemon chiffon, vanilla crème caramel, bosc pear and a tiny hint of wild fennel wrap around the soft, round elegant core with a whisper of sweet French oak and butterscotch. This wine will develop amazing complexity for years to come. 834 cases produced.

An entirely gravity-fed production facility, the new building is a testament to artisanal winemaking, with average yearly production nearing 30,000 cases of all varietals. Read less

Showing more tension and energy, the 2012 Chardonnay Mt. Harlan is an incredible effort that exudes ripe apple, white peach, white flowers and mint aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied and elegantly styled, the acidity is beautifully integrated, and the wine builds in richness and depth with time in the glass. Coming from limestone soils, 100% barrel-fermented and aged 10 months in 30% new French oak, it’s a brilliant Chardonnay to drink over the coming 4–5 years.
