Ninety miles south of San Francisco, the vineyards are at 2,200 ft. elevation. The heat of the season is mitigated by cooling sea breezes from Monterey Bay. Several varietals are grown, with Pinot Noir having the lion's share at roughly 70 % of production, followed by Chardonnay and Viognier at approximately 21 % and 9 % respectively. An entirely gravity-fed production facility, the new building is a testament to artisanal winemaking, with average yearly production nearing 30,000 cases of all varietals. Read less

"A blend of seven vineyards, full gentle bouquet of red plum, berries and rose petal with mineral accents. Blackberry, raspberry and sour cherry with a hint of sweet oak." [From "Pinot Noir" blind tasting at Bin 105, Lincoln NE, 13 October 2012.] Blend of vineyards, broad and complex, juicy, with spice, plums. [From "Pinot Noir" at Bin 105, Lincoln NE, 13 July 2013.]

Super bright fruit on the palate with notes of sweet cranberry sauce fresh picked raspberry light winter spices and a touch of mocha chocolate. Tense and precise throughout the mid-palate with superb texture and a bright streak of minerality. Finishes bright and long with well-integrated tannins. Excellent wine. Alex Lallos.

Central Coast, CaliforniaCalera Pinot Noir Central Coast is our newest red wine gem from California! Calera is a vision, and Calera's wines truly express the sense of place. Rather than follow the recommended path, Josh Jensen became a pioneer in search of the perfect spot on the globe to grow grapes. Even renowned wine critic Robert Parker is convinced, saying, "Calera is one of the most compelling Pinot Noir specialists of not only the New World, but of Planet Earth." Antonio Galloni for Parker rated the 2009 vintage 92 points with a glowing review: "It may very well be the single finest value in American Pinot Noir. I was hardly surprised to learn Emirates chose to serve this wine in their business class cabin last year. This is a dazzling wine from start to finish." This 2011 vintage just received a 90-point score! Need we say more?Calera Pinot Noir offers delightful bright aromas of pomegranate, sandalwood, juicy cherry and bramble. Seven different vineyard sources combine to create lively flavors of cranberry, French prune, briar and expressive red plum with a soft underpinning of oak. Deep flavors, firm tannins, wonderful fruit and a nice tartness make for a rich, lingering finish. The wine was aged without racking in mostly French oak barrels, 10% new, for eleven months. The vineyard lots were combined prior to bottling and the wine was bottled unfiltered.Enjoy Calera Pinot Noir Central Coast with roast pork, grilled salmon, ratatouille and aged cheeses.
