Cakebread Cellars is located in the heart of the Napa Valley on Highway 29 between Oakville and Rutherford. Family owned and operated for 36 years, we pride ourselves on making full flavored, balanced and elegant wines.
This was a nice middle of the day treat. We had it with our lunch and the crispness cut right to my core. There was a little pear on the nose and maybe a little apple. Had a noticeable citrus flavor in the mouth but was well appreciated. The finish ended with a little bit of butter.
The wine is a wonderful light straw color that reminds you of early spring corn fields. The aroma is so clean and fresh, it is hard to believe it is a Chardonnay that can sometimes have a pungent aroma. Once it settles in the glass it has intricate aromas of ctrius, apricot and honeydew melon. In fact, so many different fruits, green apples, pears, popped into my head after every sip it was hard to keep up. There is only a hint of buttery’ness and even less of a hint of oak, which for me is perfect for this wonderfully light yet full of complexity wine. As the wine opens up more, the palate experiences so much more delicious, complex tastes of fruit that ends in a delightful, long finish. You can tell I love, love, love this wine! Big fan! Enjoy on a special occasion or indeed a Thursday night in alone! I paired this wine with Roasted Zucchini and Whole Wheat Pasta and it was fabulous.

Cakebread Cellars Napa Chardonnay 2008 has whole-cluster-pressed the grapes for optimum freshness, then fermented 85% of the juice in French oak barrels, with the balance fermenting in stainless steel tanks to preserve the wines bright fruit character. This 2007 Chardonnay aged sur lie (on the yeast lees) in French barrels, 35% new, for eight months, with periodic stirring of the lees to enrich texture and flavor. In 2007, 11% of the Chardonnay barrel lots were selected to undergo a secondary malolactic fermentation which softens the natural acidity resulting in a fuller bodied wine. Winemaker Julianne Laks tastes every barrel lot frequently as it matures to determine the perfect amount of stirring for each, thus enhancing the complexity of the final blend. The result is a fresh, rich, beautifully balanced Chardonnay with classic Napa Valley characteristics.
Our 2008 Napa Valley Chardonnay seduces right off the bat with brilliantly fresh, complex aromas of lemon-lime, scented pear, ripe yellow apple, honeydew melon and mineral. On the sleek, vibrant palate, rich, concentrated, ripe apple and pear flavors dominate, with refreshing citrus and mineral tones emerging in the wine's wonderfully long, crisp, finish. Deliciously fresh and delectable now, this youthful Chardonnay will blossom and gain further richness and complexity with another 6-8 months in the bottle and will drink beautifully for 3 to 5 years. - Winery

Jack Cakebread came to Napa for the first time 30 years ago to photograph, and subsequently fell in love with the region and the wine, and began making his wine. Granny Smith apple aromas and strong minerality and smokiness on the palate. Drink this now, or hold for 3-5 years for a delightful experience.
