89 points. On the nose I detect a nice amount of butter and cream. There is also a baked good aroma, with a spiced pineapple cake and ginger preserves tone. There is a delicate floral note, something that is almost somewhat plummy, and a touch of lemon oil. The palate opens sweet and caramel-like. There is something about this wine that absolutely, without a doubt, makes me think of flan. There is a lightly vanilla scented custard tone to it, but there is also this light caramel sauce tone that reminds me of flan exactly. I also pick up on a touch of lemon juice, a spiced apple crisp tone, and a good amount of almost peppery butter. There are subtle strawberry and melon tones mingling with some light citrus flower elements in the background as well. Overall, this is a pretty well made wine. It is very smooth and almost somewhat oily, like taking a swig of petrol (in texture only.) I think it has good balance and it does not feel top heavy, despite the fact that the acidity is fairly mild. I like this wine quite a bit, but I do pick up on a good amount of burn from the alcohol on the finish, and I almost feel like I just drank a liqueur rather than a wine after I swallow it. That said, this is a nice chardonnay, but for the price, you can definitely find offerings that are just as good for less. That is one of the good things about Chardonnay, the market is so saturated with it that you can find comparable options almost anywhere. It’s that alcohol burn that keeps me from really liking this wine, and making it just not worth drinking. I looked forward to this and was really let down. I noticed no crispness at the end. Hints of yeast which I personally really do not dig. I'm better off with three 10 dollar bottles of KJ Vintners Reserve Chard.

I am not normally inclined to liking Napa chardonnays, but Cakebread captures the traditional elements of California versions without overwhelming it with stereotypical oak and fruit. Nose includes prominent rice cracker, creme brulee, and pineapple. Soft mouthfeel, round and yummy. Wine is balanced and smooth, with a savory first note (sea salt?), and some creamy spice on the finish.

This was great...I found it relatively light and refreshing...relatively subtle though...

Wine Tasting NotesCakebread Cellars' Napa Valley Chardonnay is light straw in color with a glint of gold. Its aromas are reminiscent of green apples and the faint scent of apricots with a clean scent of mineral suggestive of flint. These impressions are repeated on the palate with a very slight buttery finish and a subtle hint of French oak vanillin in the background. Good depth with an ideal balance of fruit and crisp acidity lead into a fresh, silky finish.

Jack Cakebread came to Napa for the first time 30 years ago to photograph, and subsequently fell in love with the region and the wine, and began making wines of his wine. His chardonnay is made to age. Granny smith apple aromas, and strong minerality and smokiness on the palate, drink this now, or hold for 3-5 years for a delightful experience.

Winemaker's Notes:

Our 2007 Napa Valley Chardonnay displays vibrant citrus blossom, ripe apple, sweet melon and white peach aromas, with subtle butter-cream, baked bread and toasty oak scents adding complexity. Rich, fresh and creamy on the palate, with beautiful underlying structure, the wine delivers sleek, succulent, ripe peach, yellow apple and lemon zest flavors buoyed by a vein of refreshing minerality, which enlivens the crisp, flavorful finish. Boasting the purity and harmony emblematic of a great white wine vintage, this classic Napa Valley Chardonnay is delightful now, but will age gracefully in bottle for another 3 to 5 years - Winemaker
