Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay 2012
Delightfully fragrant, slightly yeasty aromas of ripe pear, apple and guava fruit complemented by hints of honeysuckle, mineral and toasted oak. It likewise hits the mark on the palate, delivering sensationally concentrated pear, spiced apple and melon flavors that culminate in a long finish lifted by zesty spice and mineral tones. Bold and beautifully balanced, with great depth and breadth of flavor.
Cakebread Cellars is located in the heart of the Napa Valley on Highway 29 between Oakville and Rutherford. Family owned and operated for 36 years, we pride ourselves on making full flavored, balanced and elegant wines.
Slightly oaky, caramelly nose. However, introduction to the palate is very bright—hint of melon flavor, but the dominant sensation is acid tartness that is very close to lemony. Melon, again seems to dominate the aftertaste. I can see why lovers of buttery/oaky chardonnays would not care for this. To me this is a terrific sipping wine, but I am also looking forward to having it with grilled tuna, tonight.
Not particularly spectacular. Medium to high acidity for a chard. Messy finish. No oak noticable in the mouth. Nice aroma of recently sliced mellon. I was disapointed considering the price and the fact that I love so much of this wine from this winery.
The wine is a light straw color that reminds you of early spring corn fields. The aroma is so clean and fresh, it is hard to believe it is a Chardonnay that can sometimes have a pungent aroma. Once it settles in the glass it has intricate aromas of citrus, apricot and honeydew melon. In fact, so many different fruits, green apples, pears, kiwi and more popped into my head after every sip it was hard to keep up. There is only a hint of buttery’ness and even less of a hint of oak, which for me is perfect for this wonderfully light yet full of complexity wine. As the wine opens up more, the palate experiences so much more delicious, complex tastes of fruit that ends in a delightful, long finish. You can tell I love, love, love this wine! Big fan! Enjoy on a special occasion with friends or a night alone of catching up on your DVR recordings of Scandal

Pure and clean, this is marked by zesty citrus, green pear and apple notes, presented in a tight formation and ending with snappy freshness. Drink now.
The attractive 2012 Chardonnay reminded me of Chardonnays from the 1970s and early 1980s. The wine was aged in French oak for eight months, but you would never know that from the aromatics and flavors. With delicate, crisp citrus, this fresh, lively, Chablis-like effort reveals a hint of minerality. Drink it over the next 2–3 years.

This is indeed a rare treat. Most of the production goes to restaurants where it is one of the most popular wines in the country. We were able to acquire a small quantity for our WineExpress.com customers. Always a huge hit, grapes come from their vineyards in Carneros and begin with snight harvesting, which ensures the grapes are picked cold and retain their fruit purity and bright natural acidity. After a short drive to the winery, the fruit is whole-cluster-pressed – further preserving freshness and purity – and the juice is transferred to a combination of French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks for fermentation. In 2012, 90% of the Chardonnay juice fermented in barrel, while 10% became wine in tank, with 9% of the individual lots selected to undergo malolactic fermentation. All but a small percentage of the component wines aged in barrel for eight months sur lie to enhance texture and richness. Extremely limted!
