Cairnbrae Wines Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough Old River 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Cairnbrae is a boutique winery producing quality white wines in Marlborough—-neighbouring the well known Cloudy Bay and Stoneleigh. Cairnbrae started producing wine under their own label in 1992. Cairnbrae's wines have earned an outstanding reputation in part due to the terroir. The deep river gravel subsoil and varying depths of fertile river silt provide perfect drainage, conducive to the successful growing of grapes and to bringing out the truest characteristics of New Zealand sauvignon blanc.

Stunningly aromatic nose of lime oil and zippy mineral with juicy flavors--a truly lively wine with nice density and a clean, crisp finish.

Pale bright yellow. Musky aromas of grapefruit, licorice and peppery herbs. Very sauvignon on the palate, with brisk acidity framing the flavors of grapefruit, green pepper and fresh herbs. Finishes bright and persistent.

The 2011 Sauvignon Blanc has pronounced grass, capsicum, pea pod notes over lemon juice and green apples. Very crisp and equally intensely fruited on the medium bodied palate, it gives a refreshing mouthful and a long straightforward finish. Drink it now to 2014.

Kiwifruit, melon and citrus flavors have a tangy, juicy side and plenty of punch on the long finish, which shows an appealing lemongrass note. Drink now.
