Cain Wines Cain Five Spring Mountain District Usa 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

One of the Napa pioneers in making a "Bordeaux" that, in terms of sophistication, has been right up there with those of France for many vintages. A floral-herbal perfumed nose and a juicy, mouth-wateringly vibrant palate help make the 2008 one of best Cain Fives in memory. Ready to give pleasure now, it can only improve in perofrmance with bottle-age.All five Bordeaux varietals are used:[61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot]

Cain Five was founded in 1980 by Joyce and Jerry Cain on 550 acres of the historic McCormick Ranch on Spring Mountain in the Napa Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon was the focal point of their project, blended with its Bordeaux friends Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, a.k.a. the Cain Five. Nancy and Jim Meadlock joined them in 1986 and became sole owners when the Cains retired in 1991. The vineyards are situated on the sides of a valley bowl, in the hills of the Mayacamas Mountains. The grapes are grown in predominantly clay soils, in close proximity to a forest of Douglas Fir trees, which are thought to contribute to the unique flavor profile of the wines. These are made with extra attention to detail using classical winemaking styles. The three main wines produced by Cain Five, all Cabernet Sauvignon blends, are Cain Cuvée, Cain Five and Cain Concept.  Read less
