Cain Vineyard Cain Five Spring Mountain District 1997

Winemaker's Notes:

The 1997 Cain Five, one of the finest wines Cain has yet produced, is a superb blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. This is a classy, rich, concentrated effort revealing copious quantities of black fruits intermixed with licorice, coffee, and vanillin. This wine is medium to full-bodied, with a velvety texture. This rich, elegant, intense, well-balanced, impressive red should drink well for 15+ years. - Wine Advocate*This item is extremely limited in quantity and is subject to availability.*

Cabernet Sauvignon was the focal point of their project, blended with its Bordeaux friends Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, a.k.a. the Cain Five. Nancy and Jim Meadlock joined them in 1986 and became sole owners when the Cains retired in 1991. The vineyards are situated on the sides of a valley bowl, in the hills of the Mayacamas Mountains. The grapes are grown in predominantly clay soils, in close proximity to a forest of Douglas Fir trees, which are thought to contribute to the unique flavor profile of the wines. These are made with extra attention to detail using classical winemaking styles. The three main wines produced by Cain Five, all Cabernet Sauvignon blends, are Cain Cuvée, Cain Five and Cain Concept.  Read less
