Cain Five Spring Mountain Red Blend 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes
The Cain Five is dense and concentrated without being heavy. It is probably the most tightly wound Cain Five since the 1994. The key point is that even though it will easily last another twenty years, you can drink it today. If you do, it's best if you decant the wine into a carafe to give it some air and let it breathe and relax. Everything is in place; it could only come from the Cain Vineyard, with its perfume and satin-smooth mouth-feel. You're sure to recognize the unmistakable signature of flowers, berries, herbs, tar - all layered on a lovely earthy background. This is an exotic wine, quite unlike the big sweet Napa Cabs we all know.

Varietal Content: 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec

Cabernet Sauvignon was the focal point of their project, blended with its Bordeaux friends Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, a.k.a. the Cain Five. Nancy and Jim Meadlock joined them in 1986 and became sole owners when the Cains retired in 1991. The vineyards are situated on the sides of a valley bowl, in the hills of the Mayacamas Mountains. The grapes are grown in predominantly clay soils, in close proximity to a forest of Douglas Fir trees, which are thought to contribute to the unique flavor profile of the wines. These are made with extra attention to detail using classical winemaking styles. The three main wines produced by Cain Five, all Cabernet Sauvignon blends, are Cain Cuvée, Cain Five and Cain Concept. Read less
