Cain Five Spring Mountain Red Blend 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

the Cain Five is fresh and firmly structured, with potential for long and consistent aging. This marks the second vintage of 100% Cain Vineyard - Estate Bottled, which means 100% of the grapes were grown in the Cain Vineyard. With its floral-herbal perfumed nose, and its juicy, mouth-wateringly vibrant palate, it could only be the Cain Vineyard.

Varietal Content: 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot

Cabernet Sauvignon was the focal point of their project, blended with its Bordeaux friends Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, a.k.a. the Cain Five. Nancy and Jim Meadlock joined them in 1986 and became sole owners when the Cains retired in 1991. The vineyards are situated on the sides of a valley bowl, in the hills of the Mayacamas Mountains. The grapes are grown in predominantly clay soils, in close proximity to a forest of Douglas Fir trees, which are thought to contribute to the unique flavor profile of the wines. These are made with extra attention to detail using classical winemaking styles. The three main wines produced by Cain Five, all Cabernet Sauvignon blends, are Cain Cuvée, Cain Five and Cain Concept. Read less
