Cadaretta Sbs Sauvignon Blanc 2009

External Review:

Rating: 90/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Somewhat sedate for a full-blooded Sauvignon Blanc, this one gets better grades when its true identity is revealed and its green melon, citrusy and figgy aroma turns out to suit its blend quite nicely. It is full and firm on the palate and tastes, as it smells, of melons, figs, a squeeze of grapefruit and wisps of grasses, and it finishes with a pleasantly vital, lithe quality.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

This bright, lively white is juicy with grapefruit, black pepper and herb flavors that keep zinging on the finish. Drink now. 500 cases made. -HS (a 78/22 blend of sauvignon blanc and semillon) Bright yellow. Lively pineapple and grapefruit aromas are complemented by a note of musky pear; quite fruit-driven on the nose. Then dense, ripe and sweet, with a firm edge of acidity framing the pineapple fruit. This boasts good texture and fruit but shows some slightly spiky acidity. Owner Rick Middleton believes that 2009 was a better vintage than 2008 for white wines, although he also told me that Cadaretta is no longer making chardonnay. An Aussie-style blend of 78% Sauvignon Blanc and 22% Sémillon. It's been a real success for Cadaretta, and this is in the same mold as previous efforts. Tasted just prior to release, it was loaded with crisp, primary fruit flavors of green apple, melon and grapefruit. Nice texture, and just a hint of barrel toast too. - P.G. T...
