Oaky in a nutty, sweet caramel, Cognac kind of way, but there's plenty of herb-scented wild berry and blueberry fruit to handle it. Licorice and cedar, too. This is broad and fairly taut on entry, showing a fine balance of tightly grained tannins and acidity. There's a lot going on in the mouth with complex flavors of nutty oak, sweet caramel, vanilla, licorice, chocolate and cedary oak. The fruit is low and wild blueberry scented. It peeks out on the back end and firms up on the moderately long if dry finish. This maintains a lovely texture throughout and only the drying oak tannins really detract from the package, though the flavors are driven by oak to a certain extent. 87pts
