Founded in 1972, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines crafts an array of acclaimed wines from estate vineyards in Monterey County, Paso Robles and Napa Valley. From this world-class palette of fruit, J. Lohr produces three tiers of award-winning wines – J. Lohr Estates, J. Lohr Vineyard Series and J. Lohr Cuvée Series. Selecting Monterey County’s Arroyo Seco appellation for his original vineyard, Jerry planted his first 280 acres of grapes beginning in 1972. Ideally suited for cool-climate winegrowing, these vineyards have become an acclaimed source for outstanding Chardonnay, Riesling, Valdiguié and Pinot Noir. At the heart of J. Lohr’s renowned red wine program are its 2,000 acres of estate vineyards in Paso Robles. Featuring warm, sunny days, cool nights and diverse soils, these vineyards have proven ideal for cultivating a flavorful array of grapes including voluptuous and complex Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc along with Syrah and Zinfandel. Aromas of smoke and cranberry. It wasn't bone dry so I think it would appeal to several different palates, especially at Thanksgiving. It would be perfect with turkey and cranberry sauce. Color was translucent, red-purple strawberrish.

Garnet-red with deep intensity. An earthy nose sowing plum, black currant and black cherry, smoke and oak. Well balanced with good mouth feel. Pleasing on the palate with black berries and earthy flavours. A medium-long finish.

A good value wine (I believe it was around $12.99). The nose had pleasant aromas of dark berries and hints of vanilla. These notes carried over to the palate with flavors of blue berries, black cherries, vanilla and hints of chocolate. It had a good balance, with smooth tannins. Drink now through 2014.

Although fairly young, not too tannic. Smooth finish without much acidity on the back end. Bright fruit and oak with just a hint of vanilla on the finish to round it off nicely.

Wine Tasting NotesVibrant purple-red in color with youthful hues, our Wildflower Valdiguie has intense varietal aromas of boysenberry, raspberry, blackberry and bing cherry preserves with a black pepper note. The brambly fruit aromas with black pepper carry through on the palate and are balanced by the moderate acidity and touch of residual sugar. This wine has the capability of aging up to 10 years, but it should be enjoyed in its youth with barbecued salmon, roasted pork or wild fowl. It also complements Brie, Swiss and Edam cheeses. Serve slightly chilled.

The 2007 J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is a youthful, dense purple red color with bright hues. The aroma is very generous with black cherry, black currant and plum fruit, complemented by vanilla, char and toasty notes from the twelve to fourteen months in barrel. On the palate, the fruit flavors echo the aroma, complexed with blackberry and a plump, round mouthfeel and finish. Although the 2007 Seven Oaks Cabernet is ready to be enjoyed now, it is cellar-worthy for an additional 5 years. Enjoy it with your favorite roasted or barbecued meats, or tomato-based pasta dishes. - Winery

True to J Lohr's style, this wine has tons of oak and enough fruit to balance it nicely. Big and delicious, this wine needs to match with red meat to really shine.
