Ca' del Baio 'Valgrande' Barbaresco 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

*90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate* *90 Points - James Suckling* *90 Points - Antonio Galloni* The Grasso family's deep roots in wine farming in the Langa are represented today by the fourth generation, Julius and Luciana. Along with their daughters - Paola, Valentina and Federica - they devoted great care and expertise to running all the various areas of the business, from marketing to agronomics Their wines in many countries Throughout the World. Wines of consistent quality guaranteed by simplicity, a sense of sacrifice and a strong attachment to the land. All the grapes used in making the wines are estate-grown. Nebbiolo vines with an average age of between 25 and 40 years grow on crus in the villages of Treiso (Valgrande) and Barbaresco itself (Asili and Pora). Once harvested the grapes are given a traditional stem-free on-the-skins fermentation for 7 to 15 days in steel at a controlled temperature. The wine then matures for 30 months in Slavonian oak casks, before being cellared for 6 months in the bottle prior to release. This mature wine has a wonderful garnet red color with an intense nose, with powerful fruit, dried flowers and underbrush. The palate is dry, smooth and rounded, ending in a warm finish with nicely-balanced tannins. A natural match for roast meats and terrines, mature cheeses and fondues, meat and vegetable soups. Drink 2015-2019 "The 2007 Barbaresco Valgrande is an excellent choice for near-term drinking. Freshly cut flowers, mint and berries are just some of the nuances that emerge from this forward, expressive Barbaresco. Captivating floral notes are woven throughout, adding to a sense of elegance and poise that accompanies the wine from start to finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019." 90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Ca' del Baio:
Wine is made in the vineyard where the typicity of particular grape varieties is preserved, old clones are taken care of, and work is carried out with passion and experience, day after day, season after season. The wines of Ca’ del Baio are born out of this close relationship of love, which begins in the vineyard and continues in the winery.
