User Reviews for C. Donatiello Winery Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
Add your reviewThis 09 is fine. A little carbonic upon opening. But that dissipates. Then elegant.
Out of NUMEROUS RRV Pinots I've had, this one stands out based on balance, silkiness and drinkability. Often times I am stuck with an overly rich earthiness on the nose of most Russian River Pinots that dilute the other flavors. NOT SO on the Donatiello Pinot. This one was way more delicate and beautiful to drink. The nose consists of light strawberry and cherry fruit, a little vanilla from the French oak and some spice, but just a little cinnamon. The first sip went down all too easy, as did the rest of the bottle. Wonderfully silky, fluid, slightly sweet berry fruit and brown sugar. There was literally no indication of tannins, but just a mild acidity. Kind of reminded me of a fresh summer berry pie with sugar sprinkled on the freshly baked pie crust. Pure heaven.... drink now, drink later, drink anywhere and any day! Absolute bliss in a bottle!!
Winemaker's Notes:
Aromas of spicy black pepper, dried cranberries, cola, mocha and cherries. On the palate, bright and clean with deeply layered flavors of raspberry and rhubarb which give way to flavors of cinnamon and chocolate. The finish is long and clean with balanced tannins, acidity and oak. Alcohol 13.5%.
