In the 1980s Santa Barbara gathered fame as a cluster of serious vintners started producing Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays that were praised for their character, depth and honesty. Among the group was Ken Brown who established his Byron Winery on the site of the original, historic Nielsen Vineyard. Brown’s innovative gravity-feed winemaking facility and intensive viticultural experiments helped revolutionize cold-climate grape growing in California. Today, Byron is focused on single vineyard and regional bottlings of Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from the best benchland sites throughout Santa Barbara County. Read less

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

This was very good. Lots of cherry and cola in the glass. Very rich fruit in the mouth. I wouldn't call this a classic wine by any means, it just isn't complex enough, but it certainly makes a higher end daily drinker or a wine to pull out for dinner guests if you don't want to grab a bottle from the cellar. I had this with a Macadamia Nut Chicken and it went very well.

Been away from pinots for a while. Lush, velvety...a mouthful. A bitter streak all the way through to the finish is a bit disconcerting. But overall, an easy drinker with some complexity.

Wine Tasting NotesRich aromas of ripe cherry, red plum, cedar, cinnamon stick and clove are highlighted by lovely accents of violets and rose petals. The wine displays excellent intensity of flavor, featuring hints of black cherry, plum, spice and subtle nuances of French oak. Natural acidity and smooth tannins support the silky mid palate. The wine culminates in a long, velvety finish.
