What to Expect

Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

Editorial Reviews

Intense notes of incense and candlewax immediately emerge from the glass joined by dark, smoky, slightly jammy fruits with complicating notes of fish sauce, underbrush, tapenade, thyme and olive oil. In the mouth he tannins are delicate and light if abundant giving the wine a velvety texture. The rosehip and wild cherry fruit is framed by vitamin like mineral notes and a wonderful inner mouth perfume of roses and tapenade. Still youthful this is emerging from its shell and has a very promising future. 93pts.

Reviews

This is what I love about Barolo. A wine you can spend the entire night with and never tire of. Each sip is sensual and fulfilling. Each sniff seems to go on for minutes and you never tire of it. Very much the case with the 1995 Butlotto Barolo Monvigliero. The nose is probably not for everyone but it's perfect for me. Intense olive tapenade, strawberry patch, tobacco leaf and cedar. The palate is full, even soft after being opened for many hours but so enjoyable with sweet red fruit, minerally soil and a bit of iodine. The finish is long and subtle but consistent. A great bottle of wine that is really read more...

Orange red amber in color which comes across as slightly more advanced than its age. At first opening an intense aroma of herbal tea with honey and lavender but as the hours wear the details begin to show black olives, dried flowers, tobacco and roasted chestnuts. This gorgeous Barolo glides across the palate and shows a wonderful coming of age for this emerging wine showing olive, meat broth, minerals, mushrooms and a bit of cherry fruit. The finish is long and coats your mouth with cherry, savory broth and minerals. WOW!
