Burlotto Barolo Neirane 1995

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Straight out of the bottle this is aromatic and inviting with perfumes of black olive tapanade, herb stems, a hint of cinnamon and stewing wild cherries and black raspberries over a chalky base note. Round and mouth filling, there remain some wiry little tannins here supporting the core of truffly, gamy bright and edgy candied wild cherry fruit that turns plush on the backend. The wine shows a bit of a lighter bodied finish where the acidity and modest tannins take control over a rather long finish. This is as the Italians would say, vellutato on the palate with those rustic tannins emerging on the finish along with hints of cinnamon and dried herbs. Lacks the balance of the best vintages but is drinking awfully well today and with really compelling complexity. 90pts

Our wines are created in an ancient structure, which surrounds an interior garden. Fermentation takes place in a wide area with huge windows, in barrels of French Oak which of 50 to 70 hectoliters and the temperature of the musts can be controlled. In the adjacent area, steels containers are used for the lactic fermentation and for the last phase of aging wines. The aging is done in two brick vaulted cellars: one is only partly underground which has thermal variations particularly adapted for stabilizing the wines, housing the wines to be consumed when young (Pelaverga, Dolcetto and Barbera.), the other cellar is totally underground and has 80% humidity with a constant temperature, used for the delicate phase of aging in wooden caskets for the most important wines like our Barolo. After bottling, the wines complete the aging process and the bottles are piled for settling, before labeling and packaging. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

This opens like a remarkable example of Cote Rotie with notes of olives, flowers, red raspberry fruit and an undertone of dried strawberry. With air notes of tar and tobacco emerge and add complexity. In the mouth this is somewhat small scaled but with great focus in a smooth, medium full bodies style with supple wild cherry fruit and light spice tones on the mid-palate that yield to notes of citron and strawberry on the finish. A wonderful bottle at maturity with a wonderful, fleshy feel 91pts

Prominent berry, cherry nose. Medium bodies with dried plum taste. Subtle and balanced taninics. Acidity comes out gradually in middle of palate. Long after taste with fruity finish.
