Winemaker's Notes:

CABERNET SAUVIGNON Napa ValleyVintage:2005Appellation:Napa Valley, CaliforniaVineyard location:Burgess Winery Vineyard - St. HelenaGrape Variety:80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec Winemaking data:Alcohol 14.4%; pH 3.69; T.A. 0.50; 100% Malolactic FermentationDescription: This wine was produced from grapes grown on our hillside vineyards--one on the western-side of Howell Mountain and the other on eastern-side of Pope Valley. The vintage of 2005 was a banner year. Heavy rains produced a record quantity of fully-matured fruit. Our wine fans can now enjoy a great synergy of quality as well as quantity from 2005 harvest. Dense, rich flavors of black and red fruits. Incredibly complex, mouth-filling and slides smoothly across the palate. The core of blackberries, cassis and cherry lead to smooth cocoa, vanilla and spice finish. It is a beautiful example of concentrated fruit and integrated tannins. A dynamic, lush wine. A perfect match when served with any grilled or roasted red meat.

We are a small, family winery in the heart of the Napa Valley founded in 1972. We specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot. Burgess Cellars, located on the slopes of Howell Mountain in Napa Valley, focuses on creating exceptional, hand-crafted estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot & Syrah. Burgess traces its origins to an original winery on the property in the 1880's. Since 1972, Napa Valley pioneer Tom Burgess and his family have followed the belief that it is vital to grow only those varietals ideally suited to a particular vineyard's soil composition, sun and wind exposure, and overall micro-climate. The French refer to this as "terroir," and it certainly explains the consistent aromas and flavors found in the hillside Burgess Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the years three distinct estate vineyard sites have been cultivated and nurtured to create the very best handcrafted wines. The Burgess flagship wine, Cabernet Sauvignon, thrives on the western slopes of Howell Mountain near the winery; Merlot is ideally suited to the Triere Vineyard on the Napa Valley floor in the Oak Knoll AVA just south of Yountville; Syrah is perfectly matched to conditions in the estate vineyard site on the eastern slope of Howell Mountain. Burgess is somewhat unique in the Napa Valley today, in that it is truly a family-owned winery which has employed the same gifted winemaker, Bill Sorenson, since the winery's re-birth in 1972. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Great structure and showful, this has the crème de cassis and kirsch notes I enjoy with a full mouth feel that is plush, elegant and abrupt all at the same time. A great value in today’s world of runaway pricing. A great QPR and rated as such.

I love this wine for the price. It is a great Napa Cabernet in the mid to high 20s. That deep beautiful Napa red color is evident right away. The finish is what i love about this wine, stays on your tongue for a while. Delicious.

Deep red in the glass with aromas of red licorice and hibiscus tea, along with subtle hints of oak and spice that slowly give way to a palate of red cherry, cola and crushed black raspberries. This wine has excellent mouthfeel and balance with a supple finish that displays just a hint of cedary oak.
