Burgess Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Vintage Selection 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

The Wall Street Journal: 11/11/05: Rating: "Very Good" & "Best Value""Deep and very earthy, with rich tastes and some nicely vibrant acidity. A perennial favorite. Also keep an eye out for its 'Library Release' older wines." BURGESS CELLARS 2001 CABERNET SAUVIGNON – Napa Valley Vintage: 2001 Vineyard location: Burgess Estate Vineyard, Napa Valley, California Grape Variety: 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot Winemaking data: Alcohol 14.3%; pH 3.67; T.A. 0.56; 100% Malolactic Fermentation Description: The vintage of 2001 was harvested earlier than normal, though our hillside vineyard normally reaches full maturity due to budbreak occurring about two weeks earlier than the alley floor. The aroma and flavor of the 2001Cabernet Sauvignon is magnified by the ideal ripening conditions, which occurred for this vintage. The finish is also extensive which comes from the vintage and our mountain vineyards. This wine will complement foods of robust style and will continue to develop with proper aging. Interesting facts: This wine was produced from a very unique mountainside vineyard. The vines were replanted in the 70's and now show a high level of maturity and consistency. This is further enhanced by the western facing location. We use the most modern fermentation concept of horizontal rotary fermentors to extract all the positive components and manage tannin extraction. Cases produced: 8,000

We are a small, family winery in the heart of the Napa Valley founded in 1972. We specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot. Burgess Cellars, located on the slopes of Howell Mountain in Napa Valley, focuses on creating exceptional, hand-crafted estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot & Syrah. Burgess traces its origins to an original winery on the property in the 1880's. Since 1972, Napa Valley pioneer Tom Burgess and his family have followed the belief that it is vital to grow only those varietals ideally suited to a particular vineyard's soil composition, sun and wind exposure, and overall micro-climate. The French refer to this as "terroir," and it certainly explains the consistent aromas and flavors found in the hillside Burgess Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the years three distinct estate vineyard sites have been cultivated and nurtured to create the very best handcrafted wines. The Burgess flagship wine, Cabernet Sauvignon, thrives on the western slopes of Howell Mountain near the winery; Merlot is ideally suited to the Triere Vineyard on the Napa Valley floor in the Oak Knoll AVA just south of Yountville; Syrah is perfectly matched to conditions in the estate vineyard site on the eastern slope of Howell Mountain. Burgess is somewhat unique in the Napa Valley today, in that it is truly a family-owned winery which has employed the same gifted winemaker, Bill Sorenson, since the winery's re-birth in 1972. Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

The wine has a deep violet color, with a good bit of opacity, and a brighter ruby along the edges. The nose is an interesting combination of leather, ripe plum bordering on prune, mint and an earthy, barnyard sort of smell. The taste is very fruit forward, with a burst of ripe cherries and blackberries that settle into some cedar and Asian spices midpalate. The tannins are very supple, giving this wine a round mouthfeel, and providing for a long, structured finish. This is a good example of a well-crafted Napa Cab from a great vintage. It's rich and fruity in black currant, sweet herb and spice flavors, with a good but understated application of oak. Feels sturdy and clean in the mouth, fully dry, with a long ... Wine Enthusiast. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2001 Burgess Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage Selection 750ml
