Green-tinged yellow. Intense orchard and pit fruit aromas are complemented by ginger, white flowers and orange zest, along with a strong mineral overtone. Silky and expansive on the palate, offering sappy pear and peach flavors, a touch of honey and a refreshingly bitter note of pear skin. Anise and chamomile notes come up with air and linger on the long, gently sweet, mineral-driven finish. This wine has a relatively low 1.5 grams per liter of residual sugar.

Albarino has been very trendy for nearly a decade, and Martin Codax’s 2013 Burgans Albarino is one of the better efforts. This 100% Albarino aged in stainless steel with lees stirring comes from a steep hillside, inland site that is harvested three to four weeks later than most of the coastal Albarinos. A custom cuvee put together by Eric Solomon, it offers crisp, fresh, lively honeysuckle, white peach and apricot notes, medium-bodied, dry flavors, and lots of fruit and perfume. It is a perfect foil for all types of seafood. Consume it over the next year.
