Buitenverwachting Sauvignon Blanc Constantia Beyond 2012

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Lightly aromatic on the nose with a nice white pepper tone over gentle fruit. Very crisp and focused in the mouth, delivering gently sweet citrus and lightly peachy fruit. This has real pop on the palate with good clarity to the fruit. Not fancy, this is a fresh, crisp and nicely balanced wine that finishes with a touch of stony minerality and nice, mouthwatering acidity. 87pts

Wine Spectator ReviewRated 89Very racy, with lots of chalk, lemon zest and honeysuckle notes that ripple through a refreshing finish. Drink now.Wine Tasting NotesThe wine has a pale lemon yellow color and a bouquet reminiscent of green figs with hints of gooseberries and an intrusion of green peppers. The wine is dry, full bodied and has a long lingering finish.

We won't even attempt to spell that name out phonetically, but we will tell you its translation: "beyond expectation." We found that very apt when we tried this wine. Made partly from vine plantings that are over 80 years old, with some younger ones mixed in as well. It has notes of crisp fresh flowers, peppers and minerals. Still fresh and young, this will evolve wonderfully with bottle age. From Constantia, a cooler-climate ward of the coastal region of South Africa.
