Buil Giné & Montsant Baboix 2006

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Grenache, Carignan, Merlot, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon This opens on the nose with distinct black currant and herb notes. Downright grassy at first, then turning minty with blueberry fruit and spicy oak top notes. On entry, this shows some roasted coffee notes along with a distinct impression of sweetness coming from the creamy oak and bright fruit. The fruit really takes over on the palate, though the aggressive tannins break through the fruit, tempering the impression of sweetness. Spicy and lightly peppery notes fleck the back end. The fruit turns dark and gains dried cherry notes and a hint of dates before rolling into a lightly minty and hot finish that is dominated by the tannins. This is a lot of wine, but it seems to lack focus and feels over extracted. While a blend of many grapes, this has more a muddy mix of flavors than complexity. 83pts

Deep black fruit on the nose -- a bit sweet with good potency. Good acidity and the deep flavors in this bottle makes it a great food wine.
