Buena Vista Pinot Noir Carneros 2007
2007 was a vintage marked by a dry winter, and a growing season that was fairly mild and cool. With some unsettled weather during bloom, there was some shatter which led to a lighter crop than normal, especially with Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Berry size was small, which led to great concentration in all varieties. Late August heat got harvest rolling with mild weather following through September, giving ideal ripening conditions for all our varieties.
External Reviews for Buena Vista Pinot Noir Carneros
Rating: 84/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Bothersome earthiness dogs this wine right from the start and stays the course even as a bit of fruit struggles to surface. It is supple and smooth and fairly appealing in feel, but its slightly dirty flirtations and its lack of keen focus relegate it to the ranks of less-than-successful Pinots.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.
WS 89 Pts - According to Wine Spectator - Wild strawberry and raspberry flavors are fresh and focused, with a supple texture and spice box details, followed by hints of sandalwood and citrus peel on the finish.
Food Pairings for Buena Vista Pinot Noir Carneros
The 2007 Carneros Merlot shows aromas of black plum, red currant with subtle dried herbs, green tea, and vanilla. The wine exhibits a host of cherry driven flavors up front, followed by complex earth and spice notes. The mid-palate has balanced berry and tobacco flavors which lead into well defined, structured tannins. Try this luscious Merlot with cream of mushroom soup with crème fraiche, chicken parmigiana, or any tomato based pasta dish.
