Buehler Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is brimming with fruit aromas and flavors biased to the black fruit end of the Cabernet spectrum: plums, blackberry, black currant. Rich and full-bodied on the palate, this wine drinks well on release but will soften and develop with additional age.

Buehler Vineyards is a small, family-owned winery located in the mountains east of St. Helena in Napa Valley. Situated north of Pritchard Hill and Conn Valley, near the base of Howell Mountain, our hillside vineyards are planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller blocks of old-vine Zinfandel. Our family has been farming this beautiful estate for thirty-six years. We combine that experience and the unique terroir of our hillside vineyards with low yields, meticulous vineyard management, and minimalist winemaking techniques to create wines of uncommon complexity and depth, and to present these wines to wine lovers at reasonable prices. Very dark, somewhat murky color. Quite woody nose with a kind of leesy note. Very pleasant on the palate. It spreads over the tongue and imparts some blackberry/cassis flavors. Tannins are very will contained but are sufficient along with some acid to give good structure. US$16.99 at Costco a year ago.

Intense and concentrated, with chewy wood and herb-laced currant fruit thatrsquo;s a bit rustic and tannic yet hearty and dense. Ends with chewy tannins. Drink now through 2011.

Two parts concentrated cherry flavor, one part slick tannins and a dash of herbs, this winersquo;s flavors last, making a potent impression. Ready to juice up a steak.

Big, ripe and tannic. Loaded with rich currant, plum, earth, anise and spice, but also has a streak of leather that detracts. Still, therersquo;s a lot to admire. Best from 2002 through 2009.

Firm and structured, with a complex mix of dried currant, black cherry and plum flavors, with cedary oak and blackberry peeking through on the finish. Quite tannic, so it's best to decant. Drink now through 2011.

Rose scents contrast with the tannic extract in this wine, which makes it chewy with a dark black olive flavor. Serve it with rare roast beef and braised cabbage.

Creamy oak, red currant and black cherry aromas turn rich and chewy on the palate. Well-concentrated, it turns elegant and offers a measure of finesse thatrsquo;s impressive. Appealing now, too. Tasted twice with consistent notes. Drink now through 2012.
