Bsi Spy Valley Pinot Noir 2010
Named after the satellite listening post located over the road from the winery, Spy Valley is in the Waihopai Valley in Marlborough. Happily for us they appear more interested in fine wine than exploding cigars, and recent vintages have seen the winery's trophy cabinet filled to bursting. Like most Marlborough wineries, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc are Spy Valley specialties but winemaker Ant Mackenzie and his team also make a great range of aromatic whites including Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris. Their quality was recognised in March 2007 when the winery became the first ever producer to win four trophies in the same year at the Sydney Wine Show. The Rose is produced from Pinot Noir grapes that are hand harvested from the Marlborough vineyards. The aroma is reminiscent of coconut rough with fruit notes of plum, peach and strawberries. On the palate the wine is refreshing and bright - the balance is soft and refined with the promise of pleasant memories. Try chilled with Gammon accompanied by Pineapple Salsa.

Vintage rating : 91R Predicted year : 2015 (No later than 2015) On the nose you find raspberry, cherry and plums with nice floral perfume. You also have a faint mocha smell. The fruits mentioned are easily tasted, but the oak adds a nice complexity (spices) and you have supple tannins.

Digs deep into the spice box, with nutmeg, clove and allspice flavors that perfectly frame the ripe, supple wild black cherry and raspberry notes. Comes together on a supple frame, with plenty of staying power on the finish. Drink now through 2015.
Naturally fermented and then aged in oak barrel for 8 months, the 2010 Spy Valley Pinot Noir reveals a ruby-purple color and aromas of warm strawberries, macerated cranberries and red cherries with a hint of forest floor. Medium bodied with mouth-filling red berry flavors, it is well supported by finely grained tannins and refreshing acidity, finishing long and a little spicy. Drink it now through 2015+.
Bright medium red. Cherry and dried herbs on the high-pitched nose. On the lean side, but fresh and intense, with red berry and spice flavors complicated by a hint of licorice. Just a slight greenness running through the wine. Finishes firm.
WS 92 WA 90pts. - Winemaker Notes - A garnet color with a bouquet of red fruits, plum and sweet cherry are underpinned with fragrant notes of spice and dried sage.
