The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon bursts from the glass with rich, dark red fruit, smoke, licorice and incense. The aromas and flavors are a touch ripe, exotic and totally seductive. Polished, silky tannins frame the fruit beautifully through to the finish, where floral notes add the lift and brightness. The 2009 isnandrsquo;t a huge wine, but it is immensely appealing. Anticipated maturity: 2014andndash;2029.
A real beauty, exhibiting riveting aromatics that touch a range of dark berry, green olive and herb flavors, with cedar, mocha and espresso notes. Yet for all the size and density of this Cabernet, the tannins are fine and silky. Best from 2014 through 2030.
Rich and smooth in tannins, with some sharpness through the finish, this shows masses of ripe blackberries and dark chocolate. A bit of time in the glass reprises and accentuates the chocolaty richness. Despite its power, this is refined and high toned, a serious cellar candidate. Give it 10andndash;15 years.
Dark ruby-red. High-pitched, slightly exotic aromas of brambly berries, minerals and jasmine tea. Sweet, dense and suave on entry, then extremely primary in the middle, with firm acidity giving shape to the wineandrsquo;s generous, seamless texture. Very aromatic but very young. One senses plenty of extraction here but the texture is quite smooth and the tannins polished. Finishes with lovely aromatic persistence.
A big, rich, extracted style, with a gutsy core of currant, pencil lead, earth and plum, full-bodied from start to finish, with a long, detailed aftertaste, mouthcoating tannins and touches of herb, cedar and spice. Builds momentum. Drink now through 2012.
The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon is a candidate for "wine of the vintage." It boasts a saturated black/purple color as well as a sexy, up-front nose of melted licorice intermixed with creosote, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, and graphite scents. It is layered, opulent, full-bodied, and atypically accessible for a young Bryant Cabernet, with low acidity and exceptional length. This remarkable effort will be one of the easiest to drink as well as fastest to evolve Bryants made to date. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.
The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon is an amazing tour de force. Quality like this was rare, if not impossible to obtain in 2000. From the bottle, the wine is performing even better than it did from the cask. The color is an opaque black/ruby/purple, and the amazing aromatic concoction includes notes of melted licorice, minerals, smoky toast, and blackberry as well as cassis liqueur. Full-bodied, thick, and juicy, it is a voluptuous effort to drink now and over the next 15-16 years. It is a brilliant achievement, surpassed by none, and equaled only by a few other northern California 2000s.
From the slopes of Howell Mountain, the Bryant Family 2009 Cab is one of the summits of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon artistry -- compelling, intense, nuanced and refined. Parker's review says it all.
