Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto di Serralunga D' Alba Riserva 1996

Winemaker's Notes:

Garnet red colour. Ample, complex and elegant bouquet with reminiscences of rose, ripe fruit, truffle and spices. Its flavour is dry, full, generous, harmonious and velvety. Wine of aristocratic personality that in the best vintages can boast the denomination “Riserva” on the label.

The story starts in a simple way, with the native varietals of the Langa and Roero regions and vineyards cultivated with loving care. It continues with pure, meticulous vinification, with ageing in grand oak barrels and with unforgettable Reserves. But it also includes, naturally enough, the choice not to bottle those mediocre vintages deemed unworthy of vinification. Bruno’s art encompasses passion and clear judgement but, above all, the utmost respect for his product, its admirers and for the beautiful countryside where he and his family were born and raised. The Azienda Agricola Falletto Winery comprises twenty hectares of vineyards within the Serralunga d'Alba, La Morra and Barbaresco areas. The vine growing and wine making processes are followed through with care from beginning to end, culminating with vinification and ageing within our cellars in Neive. Some of our wine is produced with grapes grown by those farmers who have always worked our winery and whose prestigious vineyards truly deserve the ‘Bruno Giacosa’ label. Read less

Somewaht reticent at first this unfurls slowly with deep notes of hazelnut, coffee, taut fruit, fresh cut plum and the layered, smoky earthy core of deep fruit that all the Giacosas share. With time one finds shreds of tobacco and notes of seared fruit and raspberry jam trying to emerge from this bottomless pit of a wine. Full and balanced in the mouth with a strong acidic spine and tons of fine, polished tannins offering superb structure apon which is draped velvetty fruit with a classic array of cherry, earth, spice, anise, fennel seed notes on the palate. This just grows in the mouth with huge weight yet such fine balance that the dark, chewy palate never becomes ponderous and finishes with great, muscular depth to the tarry finish with a bright, long wild cherry finale. Brilliant and a baby that is simply in a different league than its brother. Drink 2012-2040
