What to Expect

Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

Editorial Reviews

A bit fudgy and warm on the nose with fruits that are a bit stewy at first this takes a while to right itself. There is a candied suggestion of vanilla to the fruits, red cherry licorice, red currant even a touch of hot iron minerality poking up through the fruit. Still very youthful but finding itself. Reviews

WA 90 (8/1999): I enjoyed the outstanding 1995 Barolo Falletto. It possesses a medium dark ruby color with some lightening at the edge. The intense nose of cedar, spice box, soy, tar, rose petals, and black fruits is followed by a wine with a sweet attack, full body, and dense, layered, concentrated, spicy flavors. As this muscular, tannic wine sat in the glass, all spice and dried herbs became increasingly apparent. Cellar it for 4-5 years, and consume over the following 12 years.
