Brunello di Montalcino Riserva la Serena Gemini 96js 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

"Opens with knock-out aromatics that lead to expressive layers of ripe red fruit, flowers, spices, licorice and tobacco. The balance of fruit, acidity and tannin is fabulous. Freshly cut roses, spices and licorice reappear to frame the finish. This is an exceptional, totally refined Brunello from Andrea Mantengoli...95+" WA 4/12 "Smooth, balanced and intense. Opens with a deep, saturated appearance and plush aromas of sweet spice, rum cake, leather, tobacco, ripe fruit and blackberry. A bold, modern wine. Shows acidity and tannins that are firm but not biting. Very nice....95." Wine Enthusiast 2/12 "Gorgeous aromas of dried flowers, nutmeg and dark fruits. Prune and coffee cake too. Full body, with velvety tannins and a powerful finish. Tannic and structured. Made from biodynamic grapes. Try after 2013...96"jamessuckling.com 2/2012

The estate has been in the Mantengoli family since the 1930s, but wines weren’t produced until the late 1980s by brothers Andrea and Marcello. The vineyards, planted with 100% Sangiovese, are located in the Torrenieri zone, in an elevated section in the northeast corner of Montalcino. The wines are produced with the consultation of oenologist Paolo Caciorgna. Both the Brunello and Rosso di Montalcinos have gotten rave reviews and continue to impress in recent vintages. La Serena is poised for full organic certification starting in the 2013 vintage.  Read less
