Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Case Basse Soldera 1993
"The 1993 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Case Basse is sensational. A spectacular bouquet of tobacco, ginger, soy, roasted meat, black cherry, plum, and toast scents is followed by layer upon layer of fruit, sweet tannin, super ripeness, and gorgeous complexity and symmetry. This is an exceptionally complex, full-flavored Brunello di Montalcino that can be drunk now, or cellared for 10-15 years. This idiosyncratic but brilliant effort is not for everybody (few can afford it), but it represents a wine of great originality and complexity...95." WA #124
Case Basse is an estate in the southwest area of Montalcino, where Sangiovese Grosso vines are grown to produce the famous Brunello. It is over 23 hectares in size, and is in an excellent geographical position for wine growing -due to the hilly land of Eocene origin, -due to the altitude: 320 meters, -due to the exposure: southwest, -due to the dry, sunny climate with no fog, -due to the limpid light.
