Brunello di Montalcino Luce Della Vite Luce 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

94 Points, James Suckling: "Blackberry and coffee-bean character with hints of black tea. Full body, firm, silky and chewy tannins and a focused finish. Tight and precise. Very muscular for the vintage. Needs time to soften. Better in 2020." 11/16 93 Points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Luce della Vita is a second important brand owned by the Frescobaldi family in Montalcino. Their other historic estate is the Tenuta Castelgiocondo with a beautiful villa overlooking the vineyards. The Luce brand does extremely well in foreign markets thanks to its elegant marketing and packaging. The Luce della Vite 2012 Brunello di Montalcino sees an annual production of approximately 25,000 bottles. The wine is styled with contemporary flair. The color is richly saturated and inky dark with bright ruby highlights. The color is very attractive. Bold cherry and blackberry emerge from the bouquet, and there's a generous amount of oak spice and toast to speak to an international palate. Integrated oak tannins are folded within the wine's rich and fruity consistency." 02/17 92+ Points, Ian D'Agata, Vinous: "Dark red-ruby. Deep aromas of black cherry, licorice, and forest floor. Rich and dense, with medicinal dark fruit and very strong savory characters dominating. Lovely depth and building complexity here, but turns slightly austere on the back end, finishing very firmly tannic, with sneaky length. This really needs to be laid down for a decade or so before it will show fully just how much it ahs to offer." 03/17

Luce:
It is a radiant sun, with its corona of twelve flaming rays. Anyone who strolls through the cities of central Italy will have admired it carved into the keystone of an arch, wrought into the decorative iron of a gate, or pressed into a ceramic tile-not to mention on the high altar of Florence's Santo Spirito church, built by Brunelleschi on a piece of property donated by the Frescobaldi family.... It is a radiant sun, with its corona of twelve flaming rays. Anyone who strolls through the cities of central Italy will have admired it carved into the keystone of an arch, wrought into the decorative iron of a gate, or pressed into a ceramic tile-not to mention on the high altar of Florence's Santo Spirito church, built by Brunelleschi on a piece of property donated by the Frescobaldi family. This sun represents the Divine Light, light for mankind. It is a light that gives warmth, that nourishes growing things, and crafts the sinew within wine. Simply pronouncing its name conjures up the power of Sangiovese and of Merlot, which together give birth to Luce, in the generous earth of Montalcino. Read less
