Brunello di Montalcino la Serena 97js 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

"I like the spices, berries and hints of wet earth on the nose. Dried plums, too. Full-bodied, with amazingly intense, exotic, decadent fruits. Velvety-textured and very flavourful. Gorgeous, sexy style to this. Best wine ever from here. Made from biodynamically grown grapes...97" JS 11/13 "Smoky overtones of barbeque and pipe tobacco fill in the background and provide a platform for all the busy cherry and ripe berry notes presented on the nose. It's a big, bold style with loads of savory spice, black pepper and smoked bacon...92" WE 05/12 "Beautiful. A large-scaled, opulent wine, the 2007 captures the personality of the vintage while retaining fabulous balance and proportion. Layers of dark fruit, mocha, spices and new leather build effortlessly to the huge, palate staining finish. This is a fabulous showing...94+" WA 4/12

The vineyards, planted with 100% Sangiovese, are located in the Torrenieri zone, in an elevated section in the northeast corner of Montalcino. The wines are produced with the consultation of oenologist Paolo Caciorgna. Both the Brunello and Rosso di Montalcinos have gotten rave reviews and continue to impress in recent vintages. La Serena is poised for full organic certification starting in the 2013 vintage.  Read less
