Musky and smoky on the nose, this almost shows some flint along with the wild herbs and a very clear, slightly antiseptic tone all over a base of lingonberry jam. Smooth and broad in the mouth, this is a touch loose up front. Zesty acids kick in along with the liquory red currant fruit, spice notes, wild raspberries and a little mint that lingers on the long, limestone-driven finish. A lot of potential here. 92pts

Liquory red cherries in alcohol and sandalwood aromas along with a nice shading of wild sage and fine raspberry notes lend this a very classic bouquet. Downright opulent and soft on entry before the very fine, ripe tannins kick in to lend a little spice to the very transparent palate. That savory spice edge adds some complexity to the red fruit here and the bright acids keep this nervous in the mouth. Fine length on the finish shows this to be another wine with super ripe tannins. 90pts

Nebbiolo Prima - Brovia Rocche Castiglione Falletto - nice liquory fruit over toasty spice, seems a touch sweet up front but the fruit is very fresh, nice clarity here, turns a bit liquory on the backend, finish is strong, elegant, nice tension, touch of herb on finale 8

Seared fruit, closedish, not showing much but what’s here appears to be fresh and balanced if a touch jammy, big fruit, dry fruit, not sweet, a bit matte in the mouth, savory, woodsy tea tones, drying, a bit bitter, but long and complex finale, will improve

AWE blind tasting - another fine blend of herbal and ripe fruit tones, almost salty with baked clay, raspberry coulis, spicy strawberry and aromatic seed notes, rich fruit up front, density balanced crisp, fine cherry/raspberry fruit, really well framed, admirable freshness and concentration, nice background herb and spice notes, ripe tannins, a touch of melon rind, a little tarry tobacco tone, really nice finish with pure fruit and spice, very complete wine, 92-93

Slightly jammy fruits on the nose with a slight feral edge, a touch meaty with menthol and asphalt undertones 2+ Good acids in the mouth with a soft, gentle, approachable character 2+ Low intensity flavors with great transparency, slight sour berry fruit, uncomplicated 2 Finishes short and austere without great intensity 2 (5/2008) 88pts

This really had great aromatics with liquory wild raspberry fruit, smoky, mossy grace notes and a penetrating perfume of dried flowers and oily herbs with notes of thyme. Offering up a very nicely integrated mouthfeel and plenty of leather and mineral tinged red fruits on the palate this was rich yet elegant with good length on the finish and very fine, ripe tannins that added richness and weight. A very solid effort that could use a bit more depth on the palate. 2008-2020 90pts.

Light translucent ruby in color. Roses, Mushroom, forest floor, menthol and cherry fruit on the nose. Raspberry fruit, soil and mineral driven on the palette. Warming yet fresh. Finishes with an earthy and leathery finish.

Fungal, musty sawdust aromas. Palate is still bright, red fruit and quite refreshing. Good, slightly rough tannins with ripening red fruit and a light licorice hint.

From Magnum. Better than i last remember it. Starts with an astringent nose of iodine and acetone, which isnt my style. But, in the mouth it was more forgiving - juicy, chocolate notes balance out the chemical top notes.

Mature with lots of secondary and tertiary aromatics: notes of dank concrete, ripe fungals and mold. Very acidic still with a medium length finish.

Sorry, but has anyone sniffed a truffle lately? I found this wine so redolent with those knobby fungi, (both on the nose and palate) I did not want to put my glass down. Obviously mature, with many years left. excellent structure and great bones (grape tannins, depth, acidity...lovely, please hand me some cheese - due to the acidity - finish) The color had faded to a garnet / brick. Under the truffles, I found dried rose petals, forest floor. Absolutely divine!

The 2007 Barolo Rocche emerges from the glass with freshly cut roses, sweet berries and spices. The Rocche is always the most open of Brovia's single vineyard Baroli. Barolo Rocche opens with inky-dark concentration, chewy ripe cherry flavors and lingering hints of cola, mint and licorice. The more the wine opens in the glass, the more it evolves aromatically to include tones of barbecue, mesquite and smoke. - M.L... Wine Enthusiast. "Rocche" is one of Brovia's most impressive achievements from a 1.5 hectare pacel of forty year old vines. On the nose, the wine gives lovely red fruits: cherry, raspberry, as well as distinct floral notes. The wine is light in color but perfectly extracted and structured. A wine that is meant for the table.

The Rocche vineyard is located in the heart of the Castiglione Falleto area. The soil is calcareous and sandy. This wine has a powerful backbone yet maintains finesse on the palate. This is signature Brovia.

A delightful red wine with aromas of roses, violets, and earth. This young Nebbiolo is perfectly enjoyable today with proper decanting; otherwise (if your cellar permits), hold it for decades.

    Winemaker's Notes:

"An open, floral nose announces the 2008 Barolo Rocche. This is a surprisingly steely, intense Rocche with little of the early appeal this wine usually offers. Instead, readers will find a structured, inward Barolo that should develop handsomely for at least two decades. A hint of feminine, Rocche sensuality emerges on the finish, but readers are best served cellaring this beauty for at least a handful of years. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028...96" WA 10/12
