Brovia Barolo Rocche Dei Brovia 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

"Usually rather open and expressive, in 2006 the Barolo Rocche has the makings of a long-distance runner. From time to time its perfumed red fruit makes an appearance yet this remains a powerful, inward Rocche in need of significant cellaring. There is plenty of muscle in the glass, in fact the wine continues to gain weight with air. Sweet roses and tar have the last word on the magnificent, perfumed finish. The Rocche has become marvelously expressive since I tasted it last year...96." WA 12/23/10

“In the wonderful hills of Barolo wine, where the landscape begins to take on a different, more animated guise, there is a family that has always been associated with wine: the BROVIAs. The Winery had been set up as far back as 1863 and is settled in Castiglione Falletto. Paying always attention to the importance of the “terroir”, with time and an uncompromising attitude to the selection of the finest vineyards in Langa, the family has been able to acquire great vineyards in the Barolo growing area: Rocche, Villero and Garblèt Sue’ in Castiglione Falletto and Ca’Mia and Brea in Serralunga d’Alba. Thus, the philosophy of the Winery is to propose great personality Barolos (as with the other wines produced), all made in the same way, but with very specific and clean characteristics, always different among them; Barolos that faithfully reflect the richness of our great Langa vineyards. “ Read less

Seared fruit, closedish, not showing much but what’s here appears to be fresh and balanced if a touch jammy, big fruit, dry fruit, not sweet, a bit matte in the mouth, savory, woodsy tea tones, drying, a bit bitter, but long and complex finale, will improve

"Rocche" is one of Brovia's most impressive achievements from a 1.5 hectare pacel of forty year old vines. On the nose, the wine gives lovely red fruits: cherry, raspberry, as well as distinct floral notes. The wine is light in color but perfectly extracted and structured. A wine that is meant for the table.
