What to Expect

Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

Editorial Reviews

From magnum. The aromatics here are of a fully mature wine with typical notes of beef broth, dried porcini, parchement and light , fading indian spice. There is a nuance of menthiol but in sum total the nose really recalls dried onion soup mix. In the mouth the wine is less aged with a beautiful feel with very bright acidity and resolving tannins supporting sour cherry fruit that has lovely notes of pipe tobacco and medicinal herbs adding to the juicy midpalate. The line reveals an austere finish rich in soil tones and turns more tertiary on the long finish which shows a touch of heat as well. Not without read more...

Again from magnum. This bottle showed a bit more fruit but retains that piercingly lovely note of fresh picked porcini, forest floor, and church incense. This is a taut, structurally youthful wine and even after being opened, double decanted, and poured for 6 hours the wine had yet to hit is' peak. The fruit had gained with every passing hour but the structure had become more assertive as well. A very fine wine with a long life ahead. Much fresher than the last mag.

From magnum this is an excellent bottle with an intense nose of dried rose, mushroom, limestone and forest floor. Deep and complex on the nose but a bit less so on the palate which none the less is round with bright red fruits and cleansing acids. Not particularly complex but long and pure. Delicious. 90pts

Light translucent ruby in color. Roses, Mushroom, forest floor, menthol and cherry fruit on the nose. Raspberry fruit, soil and mineral driven on the palette. Warming yet fresh. Finishes with an earthy and leathery finish.

Sorry, but has anyone sniffed a truffle lately? I found this wine so redolent with those knobby fungi, (both on the nose and palate) I did not want to put my glass down. Obviously mature, with many years left. excellent structure and great bones (grape tannins, depth, acidity...lovely, please hand me some cheese - due to the acidity - finish) The color had faded to a garnet / brick. Under the truffles, I found dried rose petals, forest floor. Absolutely divine!

From Magnum. Better than i last remember it. Starts with an astringent nose of iodine and acetone, which isnt my style. But, in the mouth it was more forgiving - juicy, chocolate notes balance out the chemical top notes.

Mature with lots of secondary and tertiary aromatics: notes of dank concrete, ripe fungals and mold. Very acidic still with a medium length finish.

Fungal, musty sawdust aromas. Palate is still bright, red fruit and quite refreshing. Good, slightly rough tannins with ripening red fruit and a light licorice hint.
