Superb florality on the nose this open with intense, dark, muscular fruit filled with soil and medicinal tones and wrapped in the gentle sweetness of old wood. Tight, and yet showing real finesse here, this offers up lovely dark flavors accented with a hint of fresh peach and rich, ripe tannins that are seamlessly integrated. With air this turns slightly medicinal, and with a slight prune flavor and late arriving wild cherry fruit adding complexity, this shows off elegance and finesse in spades. A touch short today but this is superbly put together. 93pts

Dark plum draped fruit on the nose is accented by notes of ripe stems, suggestions of cocoa and limestone and a huge sweetness of fruit. On entry, this is muscular, dark, dense and vibrantly clear with amazing cut. The flavors tend toward slightly macerated cherry fruit with hints of raspberry and a huge medicinal, savory spice top note. The finish is equally impressive with an intense sour red fruit finish, almost red peppercorn spiciness and super precise tannins. 94pts

Nebbiolo Prima 2011 Brovia Ca’Mia Serralunga- lovely berry fruit in alcohol nose, wood is fighting for control, has some nice herbal, medicinal elements, a bit of strawberry ice creaminess, soft entry, rich, lots of sweet, bright strawberry fruit, nice mid-palate, clear, a bit simple, very nicely put together, fruit driven but not fruity, nice lightly astringent finish, good length 8

AWE blind tasting - sweet jammy, a touch of powdered sugar, real intensity, a handful of green herbs and flowers, clay soil, old worn wood, , a touch diffuse, nice and fresh a touch simple but very well balanced, ripe tannins, integrated acids, feels like this has some nice depth, a touch of licorice on the backend, some of the best depth so far 91-92

From a freshly opened bottle Intense notes of walnut shells, violets, roast meat, herb stem, sand, a touch of menthol, spicy and every so stewy wild berry fruit 3 Superb elegance in the mouth with a sweet entry and a steely midpalate showing superb balance and integration 3+ Fresh and cool flavors of mineral, licorice and wild berry are crisp and virtually ready to drink, delicious 2+ The medium length finish is tight and taut with just a hint of austerity and noteworthy transparency to the earth and tobacco tones 2+ 92pts

Shy on the nose with subtle rosehips, ripe herbs, layered with dried strawberry and dry soil tones 3 Gentle and elegant in the mouth, caressing and elegant 2 Tight, lovely rosehip core with slight dried soil, dried herb edges to the small red fruits, slight drying apple peels perfume in the mouth 2 Very crisp on the finish with a high toned appeal that blends the dried red currant notes with edges of slightly spicy dried meats/speck, very long finish 3 (5/2008) 90pts

From a freshly opened bottle Dark and dense on the nose with reticent notes of dried cherry, leather, medicinal herbs and roots and a menthol top note 3 Rich and powerful in the mouth with serious tannins and bright acidity 2+ Big flavors of astringent red berries, spicy nettles, hints of brown tones leaning towards tobacco, cocoa, leather and dried orchard fruits 3 Finishes a touch clipped but with layers of mineral, earth and herb notes that gain a gentle dried orchard fruit sweetness and a subtly spicy finale 3 93pts.

This wine is smooth and balanced. It has cherry flavor, smoke, leather, earth, and mushrooms that makes this wine more complex and ageable..

The 2008 Barolo Ca' Mia is beguiling and exotic. Sweet hard candy, flowers, mint and licorice meld into a core of racy red fruit. Barolo Ca' Mia exhibits earthy tones of wild mushroom and cigar box along with lively tones of dried fruit, cassis syrup, cola, rose and tobacco. The interesting mouthfeel is characterized by both drying mineral tones and sweet cherry liqueur. - M.L. Wine Enthusiast. This was a very warm year in Piedmont and the wines show it with darker fruits and heavier tannins. This wine boasts dark berries, licorice and spice. Still shows the lithe character that is so prominent in all of Brovia's Nebbiolos.

"Brovia’s Serralunga Barolo, the 2008 Barolo Ca’ Mia, saturates every corner of the palate. Dark fruit, smoke, melted road tar, graphite and incense wrap around the palate in this dramatic large-scaled Barolo. Even more promising than it was right after bottling, the 2008 impresses for its spherical personality and towering class.
