Brotte Domain Grosset Côtes du Rhône Villages Cairanne Aoc 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

This estate is owned and cultivated by Alain Grosset, Laurent Brotte’s father-in-law. Cairanne is one of only 18 villages (of 95) that can include its name on the label. Since each varietal matured at different times, selective manual harvests were conducted on various occasions accordingly. The grapes were further sorted once in the cellar and destalked prior to pressing. Each varietal was vinified separately beginning with a 7-day fermentation in concrete tanks at 28°C. Maceration took place for 30 days with periodic pump-overs. The free-run wine was separated from the press wine to complete the fermentation of sugars. Malolactic fermentation occurred. Blended before aging, 50% of the juice was aged in new, 2nd and 3rd use French oak barriques, while the balance rested in large French oak casks. Prior to bottling, the wine was filtered then cellared 6 months before release.

Had a bottle of the 2008 Last night. Excellent. Fruity front, mild middle, warm finish. Hints of raspberry and smoke. Went well with the beef and cheese at our table.

Four glasses

Tasting Notes:

Complex aromas of small black fruits and leather. Spicy on the palate with notes of black pepper. Elegant tannins and a persistent finish of toasted flavors.
