Brothers In Arms Shiraz Langhorne Creek 2002

The label on this bottle should emphasize ldquo;EASY DRINKINGrdquo; because, oh my, it is just that. Deep, ripe, balanced red fruit and lush, fruit-driven blueberry notes allow this Langhorne Creek blend to satisfy any palate. Produced by brothers Tom and Guy Adams on a single estate; aging in oak barrels gives the wine an anise note and refined tannins.
The 2002 Blend No. 6, a blend of equal parts Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon (from 27-year-old vines) , exhibits a deep ruby/purple-tinged color along with a spicy, fragrant nose of ground pepper and Marylandrsquo;s Old Bay Crab seasoning. The intriguing aromatics are followed by a fruity red with a good texture as well as supple tannin. Consume it over the next 3ndash;4 years.

The "Brothers" this wine is named for, Tom and Guy Adams, are the CEO and vineyard manager, respectively, for a winery based at the famous Metala Vineyard, a property that has been in the Adams family since the 1850s. Best known for selling fruit to Beringer Blass for their Metala label, the brothers started making their own wine in 1998. Their "No. 6" celebrates the family's six generations of winemaking. Mostly Shiraz, the wine is supple and elegant, with a beautiful currant bouquet. The fruit is balanced and controlled, but juicy, with flavors of blueberry and white pepper. Tom and Guy have given us all something to celebrate.
Full ruby. Bright aromas of crushed cassis and licorice. Sweet, layered and pliant, with broad, concentrated currant, chocolate and mint flavors. Very cabernet in character but not green. Nicely supple on the back end.
The opaque purple-colored 2002 Shiraz offers aromas of white flowers, creme de cassis, blackberries, and leather. Full-bodied, dense, chewy, and impressively made, it should keep for 6-8 years.
