Broquel Malbec 2011
Had this with Dinner the other night at Mercat Bistro. Found this review online on National Post and feel it does far better than I can. '...A big fruity malbec with mulberry and blackberry fruit aromas, hints of oak plus floral and herbal tones, plus some dark chocolate. It’s full bodied, fairly dense, creamy and lively. Focus is well maintained on to the finish. Try with rich game or roast meat dishes. Very good to excellent length...' At the price point, superb.
Another stunner! and for less than $15 - incredible.
Four and a half glasses

The Broquel Malbec from Trapiche is on par with most producers’ Reserva wine but at a much more attractive price. Older vines (15+ years) are sourced, 100% Malbec and the wine is carefully vinified and then aged 15 months in French and American oak barrels. Blackberry, cassis, plums, smoke, dark chocolate and licorice flavors swirl on the palate. This is a Malbec with just the right balance of intensity and style. Wine Spectator scored it 90 points saying "Layers of mulled spice, tar and incense drive this brooding red, with a tight core of cassis and plum skin. The finish ends with a cream-tinged aftertaste of fruit and mocha. Drink now through 2018." On Sale!!
The red wines begin with the Broquel Malbec which spent 15 months in new French and American oak. Purple-colored, the nose offers up pain grille, mineral, spice box, blueberry, and black cherry notes. This is followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered, spicy wine with excellent grip and depth, several years of aging potential, and a long, pure finish. It is a fine example of over-delivering at a humble price."
